New Emergency Response Phone Number Final Rule

PHMSA amends hazmat regulations governing emergency response telephone numbers

on shipping papers

In this final rule, PHMSA amends the hazardous materials regulations to clarify requirements governing emergency response information services provided by arrangement with hazardous materials offerors (shippers).  It requires basic identifying information (offeror name and contact number) to be included on shipping papers. Effective date of final rule is November 18, 2009 however voluntary compliance is authorized effective immediately.

Update: PHMSA issues correction

Start date for this change to take effect October 1, 2010 instead of November 18, 2009.
